VAT & Registration
If you have collected your new car from the port, you can drive
it in the UK (even if it has no number plates), providing you drive
directly to your home.
In order to tax the car, you will be required to supply an insurance
certificate. Your insurers will want to know the proposed UK registration
number, which we will provide.
If you want a cherished number assigned to your car, we can arrange
this for you also, for an additional fee of £20, which is
on top of the £80 required by DVLA.
The cost of road tax varies according to the cars emissions. We
calculate this on your behalf and advise you on your final invoice.
This must be sent to us along with your current insurance certificate
and the balance of our fee.
We will also complete the appropriate VAT form on your behalf.
This will be passed to the Customs and Excise Department, via the
licensing office. Within 24 hours you will receive your tax disc.
In most cases the number plates will be posted directly to the
customer’s home address. These plates will already have the
fixing pads attached and are simple to fit.
In approximately 3 to 4 weeks, private individuals will receive
a demand from the Customs and Excise for the VAT on the car, this
will be calculated by adding 17.5% to the exact amount you paid
for the car, you normally have 30 days to pay this amount. Company
cars are also liable for VAT, which must be accounted for on their
next VAT return.
That's it!
